The Importance of B-12 As We Age

,All vitamins are important and we know this to be true. Vitamin B-12 is known as Cobalamin. The importance of B-12 as we age is significant because our body’s natural ability to make it declines.

Sometimes Vitamin B-12 shots are given to the elderly.  It is that inability to create it in the amounts that keep us healthier and more active, as we age.

Listed below are some of the ways that it is helpful:

  • It may ward off Anemia.
  • It helps boost the mood and memory.
  • It reduces the risk of Macular Degeneration.
  • It is essential in metabolism and nerve function.
  • It may increase energy and reduce fatigue.

What foods are important for B-12 production?

  • Fish
  • Poultry
  • Dairy
  • Meats

As written above, these are foods important to all of us, however for the elderly, it is crucial to their needs to live healthier, happier, lives. Sometimes supplementation is necessary.  The most common forms of B-12 are tablets, capsules, and liquid.

I take liquid Vitamin B-12 in my coffee, in the morning, to make sure I am fortified in this important vitamin.  I keep it fresh by keeping it in the refrigerator.  Personally, I like the liquid B-12 administered with a dropper. Then I can control the dosage. You can find dosage values listed on the bottle.  It can be found in your local pharmacies, and possibly cheaper on Amazon.com.

I have seen the difference it can make in the vitality of our aging seniors. As seniors, we need to take Vitamin B-12  to stay livelier and healthier in our declining years.
