Diverticulosis and Diverticulitis

Diverticulosis And Diverticulitis

Diverticulosis and Diverticulitis are not the same.

Diverticulosis and Diverticulitis need a better understanding for optimal health.  Here are accurate definitions to help one better understand this health condition.

  • Diverticulosis is:  The formation of abnormal pouches on the outside of the bowel wall.  These abnormal pouches are called diverticula.  It can be associated with a low fiber diet, constipation, and straining bowel movements.  This bowel straining may cause a herniation, creating a diverticulum or sac, to form on the colon wall.  Sometimes these form and there are no other symptoms.
  • Diverticulitis is:  It is more serious and includes more severe abdominal pain; especially on the left side of abdomen.  This is when the diverticulum formed, become inflammed and create an infection.

What are the symptoms?

Sudden and intense pain in the area below the chest, called the abdomen, that may vary over time.  Both conditions can start this way and can vary over time.  Consulting one’s physician is always recommended when there is pain; so be sure and check it out.

  • Ground beef – pieces are small and easy to digest

There is a way to handle this

  • I PEELED  my fruits and vegetables.
  • I threw the seeds away; especially strawberry seeds.
  • I changed from milk to Almond Milk,
  • I stopped drinking carbonated drinks.
  • I drank only wine in small amounts.
  • I stopped eating pastries.
  • I cooked scrambled eggs  – using coconut oil, olive oil; ie natural oils.
  • I chewed my food well before swallowing.

Yes, it took more of my time, but not having that pain was well worth it.  It caused me to start being more mindful of what I was eating; it also caused me to be more appreciative of how “hard” our body really works for us.
